Go Down!

Friday, April 28th, 2006

Last year Babeland opened a new sex toy store in Los Angeles. In May we’ll be airing a sexy-but-funny radio ad in LA that our marketing team just recorded. I think it’s really fun and spicy. Listen to it here and I’m guessing you’ll know how to find our new store when you’re done :)

South Carolina Bill Introduced to Ban Sex Toys

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

rabbitIt’s happening again. Another state is trying to ban the sale of sex toys. This time it’s South Carolina and this time, it would be a felony.

The bill was introduced by Republican Representative legislator Ralph Davenport Jr. and is focused on what police call “hard core porn”. This means the focus is primarily on XXX bookstores and video stores, but the law would affect sex toys sellers as well. Read all about it here

This law, as others like it, draws from the 1973 Supreme Court ruling that defines obscenity as something “contemporary community standards” define as “patetly offensive”. I’m not sure if I find the concept of the Rabbit Habbit to be offensive. Nor do I think “community standards” would find it offensive since most people look at it and are in awe. If this law passes however, the bunnies are out. All of them.

The good news? No one has co-signed this bill and it stands little chance of passing this year. There is next year’s legislative session. And the year after that, etc. Many of our worst state laws (and there are many) get passed when no one is looking.

Would you like to tell Rep. Davenport how you feel about his bill (H-4830)? Call him at (803) 742-2098 or send him an e-mail: GRD@schouse.org. If you happen to be a resident of his district (37 – Spartanberg, SC) then please make sure you tell him that. Rep. Davenport has also authored legislation to built a monument to “unborn children” and legislation that would enact the “right to life act” among other heinous legislation.
