“It” Toys

littlesteelgoldWe just finished Fashion Week here in New York. I normally pay no attention to fashion. I couldn’t tell you what the difference between Fendi and Dolce is (actually I still can’t) but I love Fashion Week because I work right near the tents and I get to spend my lunch hour waiting for celebrities to come out and watching the amazingly skinny models go in for their shows.

The thing I’ve learned about fashion is that it is partly about the next new thing, but it’s also about quality. High Fashion is about the top materials, the best fit, and the most innovative design.

The toys featured in this article are the sex toy equivalent to fashion week. The article covers such sex toys as the Nea, Little Steel, Little Gold (pictured) and the Mile High Kit - all are favorites of mine. The quality is high so I know the toy will last (the JimmyJane toys actually have replacable motors!) and the design is interesting and fun. Plus, they look amazing. And isn’t that what fashion is really all about?

Check out the new twist on Little Gold & Little Steel — Little Chroma (http://www.babeland.com/page/TIB/PROD/01988) — it’s like their new Fall Colors!

In my (not so humble) opinion, the Jimmy Jane toys are a symptom of an odious practice from the fashion/’mainstream’ consumer product world seeping into the sex toy biz: namely, the selling of a mediocre product with a huge marketing budget. Let’s face it; the J-J vibes are decent looking and no-doubt decent quality, but there is absolutely -nothing- compelling about them that would justify a $200 price tag, other than a six-figure marketing budget. In comparison, the Lelo products are actually high-quality machines, with micro-processor control and re-chargeable high quality batteries. Whereas the J-J vibes are merely a re-packaged version of the same crap Doc Johnson vibe that we all found in our mom’s lingerie drawers in the 70s and 80s, and which is still available at a XXX-mart near you for $9.95. Sucking up non-rechargeable and environmentally destructive batteries. I hope the new wave of quality design in the sex toy biz does not degrade into the pandering and flim-flamery of the maintstream product world. Please refrain from heaping praise on a product that is 98% marketing budget and 2% innovation…..

Fashion: I have to say I disagree with you. I own a JimmyJane toy and I love it. The metal in the toy is of a much higher quality than the hard plastic of a Doc Johnson toy. Plus, if I wanted to, I could have it plated in gold. This is clearly not necessary to enjoy a sex toy but people gold plate things that don’t require it all of the time. Jimmy Jane also has a lifetime warranty and a replaceable motor so it essentially will never break.

Jimmy Jane toys may not have the highest level of engineering involved (and I agree with you that the Lelo products are fantastic), but they have an element of luxury in the material, the lifetime warranty and the perks (gold plating, engraving) that make these toys unique. They may not be for you, but for some people, these toys will do the trick and may just be worth that price tag.
