With the holidays just around the corner, maybe it’s not surprising that I’m getting lots of questions in the Seattle shop about families. In particular, folks are asking me about how to raise happy, healthy, sex-positive kids.

Honest, comprehensive sex ed gives kids crucial information about the world, and it gives them the power to make good choices for themselves as adults. Parents are the go-to people for providing this information, but most of us weren’t raised to think of sex as a healthy, fun, normal part of being an adult! How do we even start to think about imparting our values to our children?
Check out our handy article How to Talk to Your Kids About Sex to get started. Here’s a sample exercise: “Think about your sexual values. How did you learn about sex? Do you want your kid’s experience to be the same or different? What do you think kids should know about sex? What should adults know about sex? Where should they learn this information? What are your own attitudes toward sex?”
