The easiest way to tell if a toy has phthalates is if it smells or "off-gasses". Have you ever smelled a beach ball when you first open it? That plastic smell is phthalates and most sex toys with them have that smell too. Phthalate toys are often called "jelly" "gel" or "jelly rubber" and are sometimes glittery and are softer in texture.

For me the smell test is the best way to go - I don't want to put anything inside me that smells like plastic or chemicals.

fabu. i wonder how bamboo bedsheets feel against the skin? or hemp lingerie for that matter? and aside from paying extra from specialty stores, how is it possible to find out if a sex toy contains phthalates?
