Planned Parenthood Pill Patrol: Become an EC Avenger!

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Phalligator has a great post about a new campaign from Planned Parenthood called Pill Patrol. This campaign turns each and everyone one of us into secret agents for Emergency Contraception. In November 2006, the FDA started allowing Emergency Contraception (or, the Morning After Pill) to be sold in Pharmacies to anyone over the age of 18 without a prescription. This great news but it doesn’t mean anything if pharmacies aren’t carrying the medication or aren’t carrying enough of it.

Members of the Pill Patrol receive a toolkit from Planned Parenthood that shows them how to ask their local Costco, Target, Wal-Mart and Oscos if they carry EC and how much it costs. Why those four? They are four major pharmacy chains that have not signed on to Planned Parenthood’s pharmacy policy guaranteeing women access to EC. Each member will then report back to Planned Parenthood about their experiences in trying to get this essential medication. Eventually, Planned Parenthood will be able to contact pharmacies that don’t carry EC or that are unfriendly to people trying to obtain it and help them see the light.

I would especially encourage people who live in smaller towns and all men to join in this effort. If there’s only one pharmacy in someone’s town, then it had better carry EC and some pharmacists have been known for giving men who are trying to obtain the medication for their partners/friends/family a very hard time.

So go out there are start investigating!

Earth Day 2007: Greening your sex life

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Earth Day 2007 is on Sunday and I wanted to take a moment to remind people of the easy (and fun) things they can do to green their sex lives.

  1. Buy the Babeland Eco-Sexy Kit: it’s got everything you need for a whole lot of eco-friendly fun.
  2. Read Treehugger’s fantastic article on greening your sex life. My favorite tip? “Hardcore tip” #3: Go Durable: “Whether it’s lingerie or a new sex toy, things that are well made and
even repairable are almost always the greener and more economical choice in the long run. High-quality sex toys tend to be pretty pricey, but will almost certainly last longer and give more pleasure. Keep this in mind when buying for yourself or for another.”
  3. Watch Treehugger TV visit Babeland to talk about buying green sex toys and buying green lube
