My apologies if the blog has seemed a little bit quiet lately. I went on a trip to Costa Rica (volcano pictured!) and I’m starting to get back into the swing of things.

While I was there, I took a lot of Spanish classes and had a fun time trying to explain to my teacher the reproductive health care, abstinence-only education, hiv/aids, what “queer” means, my own sexuality and many other topics that are difficult enough in English, let alone a language I still don’t know very well. Luckily, she was amazingly open minded and curious and we had a great time. Her incredulity at the forced use of abstinence-only education to gain access to much needed money was so real it almost made me laugh. And then I remembered: it’s not funny at all.

On the plane back to New York, I met a great couple and we spent almost the whole flight talking about Babeland! I know I’m lucky to have the kind of job that I do because how many people, when explaining what they do to someone else, fall in love with it all over again? It’s so great to work in a job where I know that I’m helping people break down those sexual barriers and have even just a little bit more pleasure in their lives. I was a little nervous about how they’d react to my job at first but they actually want me to come to Connecticut and teach a workshop!

Have you had any conversations about sex/sex toys/your sex life with complete strangers recently? How did it go?

Well, I’ve declared Wednesdays as porn days and while I don’t always feel like reviewing porn, there’s always something related to talk about - like slug porn for instance. No, it’s not some new fetish involving porn in slow motion. It’s actual slugs, mating in what is one of the most amazing and beautiful ways I’ve ever seen.
