Joan Price Looking for Interviewees

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

betterthanJoan Price, author of Better Than I Ever Expected is writing a new book and is looking for people to interview. Better Than I Ever Expected was a fantastic book that made me look forward to sex and aging. I recommend it for any age and wish I was old enough to be interviewed by her.

Here’s her message:

Seeking Interviews for Joan Price’s New Book

Wanted: Women and men over 50, single or partnered, straight or gay, willing to write candidly about your personal experiences and attitudes regarding sex and aging for my new book. I’m seeking your written comments and stories about the trials and challenges as well as the joys of sexuality after 50.

This will be a follow-up to Better Than I Ever Expected: Straight Talk about Sex after Sixty and will include stories from singles and couples, women and men, along with strategies for improving those situations that challenge us as we age. It will be more solution-oriented than Better Than I Ever Expected, dealing with the health and relationship problems in greater depth, with more expert tips. While Better was geared towards women (and those who love them!), this book will represent men and women equally.

Would you or any of your age 50+ friends like to be a part of this book? You will be identified by a first name of your choice and your age. Your true identity will be kept strictly confidential.

Interested? Please contact Joan Price at joan@joanprice.com now and I’ll email you the questionnaire.

Please copy or forward this to everyone you know who might be interested, or who might know someone 50+ who would be interested.

Please also visit my blog, http://www.betterthanieverexpected.blogspot.com, and comment on any topic that interests you!

RIP Jim Mitchell

behindgreendoorJim Mitchell, maker of Behind the Green Door passed away last month. This movie helped nudge porn just that much closer to the mainstream and is a favorite of mine for a couple of reasons.

      • The plot of the film includes a night club kind of audience that is made up of the most diverse people I have ever seen in a porn – past or present. Fat, skinny, old, young, black, white, harry, shaved, feminine, androgynous. Everyone is here and everyone is having fun. It’s revolutionary and I wish more people could see it.
  • Technicolor slow-motion cum shots. I’m not kidding. I’m generally not an enormous fan of cum shots but slowed down, in silhouette with flashing lights behind them, I’ll watch any day. At first I thought that this technique was glorifying and elevating the cum shot. Then, I started to think that these men somehow anticipated the emphasis that cum shots would come to have in the porn community and decided to poke a bit of fun at it.

I also learned some things about this film I hadn’t known before from the New York Times obituary and a Guardian Article:

  • Behind the Green Door was made for $60k and grossed over $25million
  • It screened at Cannes
  • Marylin Chambers appeared in an Ivory Soap Commercial right before the movie came out
  • The real green door, made famous in a song by Jim Lowe in the 1950’s was one of the first lesbian bars in London

If you haven’t seen it yet – I highly recommend Behind the Green Door.
