Tantra Guide: Hearts Cracked Open DVD Review

Monday, September 10th, 2007

heartscrackedAlways Aroused Girl at Janes Guide brings us another review, this time of the DVD Hearts Cracked Open - a guide to lesbian tantra. Although I haven’t seen it, it sounds like this movie would be a great introduction to tantra for any couple - lesbian or no. Sensual and slow, it’s a great introductory video in a world of misinformation about Tantra. The practice of Tantra tends to be very hard to explain in just a few bullet points - it’s the kind of thing that really needs its own book or video. Anything else just comes out as cliches and exercises that may or may not work but can’t really explain the underlying theory behind it.

Here’s some of AAG’s review:

Hearts Cracked Open focuses on how lovers must open themselves to each other in order to have powerfully intimate sex. One of the instructors, Marcia Singer, says, “You can’t get off any bigger than you’re ready to have your heart cracked open.” This is demonstrated by couples connecting to each other with their eyes and their breathing before they begin touching in a way that would look sexual to the uninitiated.

One of the things I love about Tantra is that it takes the focus off of the rush to orgasm and reminds us that getting to know our partner’s bodies and physical responses to the simplest touches can speak worlds to us and bring us into completely new places. And, we have to remember to breathe. Sex is like yoga: you work really hard, you feel really good afterwards and through it all, the breath.

Thank You Rachel Kramer Bussel!

I just want to say my thanks to Rachel Kramer Bussel from Lusty Lady for blogging all last week for Babeland! Rachel wrote about so much (from spanking to erotica to sex workers) that I’m not sure what’s left for me!

All kidding aside, it was great to have her thoughts and perspectives on these topics and I hope she’ll come back and do this again sometime. If you came over to this blog just to read Rachel’s posts, I hope you’ll stick around and see what else we have to offer.

Rachel’s blogging gave me a much-needed break (a break I haven’t had in over two years.) Now, I’m back, refreshed and ready to keep you informed on all the latest sex toy news and reviews and whatever else comes my way.

I just started graduate school and I’m studying sexuality and health so I’m sure that, occasionally, things that I encounter on my classes will show up here (not Biostatistics, I promise). I’m looking forward to having a new source for ideas and inspiration. Help with papers is also appreciated (j/k).
