Sex Toy Factory Tour

Monday, September 24th, 2007

layaHave you ever wondered how sex toys are made? Check out these amazing photos from The Sexshop 365 on their recent Fun Factory tour! This would be the first place that I would pick to tour because the Fun Factory toys are so fun looking and it would be awesome to get to play with all of the silicone. I didn’t see any of the specific toys that Babeland carries in these pictures but it’s hard to tell when they’re all taken apart.

Do you own a Fun Factory toy? What do you like about it? I love their soft texture and rumbly vibrations. They’re also much more water resistant than most toys which I appreciate. Plus, they’re just fun!

Some of my favorite Fun Factory toys:

Laya Spot: one of the best external vibes I’ve ever seen. Three speeds plus pulsing!

Mini Heartbreaker: this little guy does internal or external vibration - whatever you feel like!

Flexi Felix: best butt beads around. Their stretchiness gives them an extra bite.

Betty Dodson on the beginnings of feminism

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Betty Dodson is creating a new internet television series. The beginnings of this work are currently up on You Tube as two videos. The first is Betty talking about her beginnings in consciousness raising groups. In the second, she talks about how she got started doing her amazing sex workshops. I’ve posted both of the videos below.
I remember the first time I met Betty Dodson. She came to my college to speak for a sex positive day we were throwing. I was stuck by her energy and openness. She had a the crowd laughing and hanging on her every word. It was amazing to learn about life when she started out, when masturbation wasn’t even mentioned and places like Babeland were years and years away. People like Betty are the reason that Babeland exists today. She has helped generations of women learn to explore their bodies and embrace pleasure in its many forms. Of all of the ambassadors of the sex positive movement, I think Betty Dodson is my favorite. Plus, whenever I try to think about what I want my short hair to look like when I’m a bit older, I think of her.

If you’ve never seen Betty’s work, check out her YouTube videos and subscribe to their channel. You can also get her book, Sex for One.

New York State Rejects Abstinence Only Funding

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

fuzzybunnyHooray! The New York Times is saying that New York State has decided to reject over $3.5 million dollars of abstinence only government funding and increase state funding for comprehensive sex education programs instead. New York is the 10th state to reject the funding which mandates that abstinence is the only acceptable method of “sexual activity” for non-married teenagers and adults (up to 30 years old). Abstinence only curriculum frequently includes:

  • Homophobic messages
  • Misinformation about efficacy rates of contraception and condoms
  • Vilification of teens who are already sexually active as “dirty” or “tainted”
  • Stereotypical gender roles straight out of “Father Knows Best”

I’m extremely happy that New York has decided to reject this funding. If only the other 40 states would join in!

This is a big passion of mine. For more information check out previous posts about:
