Thanks to an article in Wired, I am very excited to announce that the AVN awards (this week) are going to be having informational workshops. Usually, the convention days are just filled with porn stars signing pictures and making out with each other. I’m generally alright with that but I absolutely love the idea of adding in some quality information as well.

This year, that quality information is coming from Jamye Waxman, our very own Education Coordinator in New York. Jamye is a phenomenal teacher, so I hope AVN understands how lucky they are. She’s going to be teaching three workshops on orgasms, monogamy without monotony and sex toys for couples.
Jamye’s workshops will be based on her terrific new educational videos called Personal Touch. We don’t have them at Babeland yet, but I hope we will soon because I think they’d be a great resource for our customers.

Jamye also just published an awesome book on masturbation called Getting Off: A Woman’s Guide to Masturbation. It has tons of great information, tips and tricks for getting the most out of jerking off. It’s been a long time since a really great book on masturbation came out so I’m very excited. And, Betty Dodson wrote the forward and if the queen bee mom of masturbation approves, then you know it’s going to be awesome.

I taught a workshop this past Sunday at our Soho Location on Becoming Orgasmic. I had so much fun teaching it but I always wonder if the people who attended got as much out of it as I hoped they would. I can only hope from the nodding heads and the excellent questions, that indeed they did.
Apparently, there were some writers in the audience that I didn’t know about. They’re from Jaunted - a travel blog - and it looks like they enjoyed the workshop!

When we headed to the Soho store for their first workshop of the year called the “Big O.” We admit that we were a little, uh, gun shy. (Remember that Sex In The City episode where the girls attended a sex class only to witness a live demonstration of how to pleasure a man?) How the heck was Babeland going to teach a group of strangers how to have better orgasms? Would they make us share our sexual issues in front of an audience or–oh God, no!–ask for volunteers to illustrate techniques?

Thankfully none of the above happened: The class was more like high-school sex education meets self-help. And, unlike the sex ed classes we were forced to endure as teenagers, this was all about how to have good sex instead of how to stay abstinent.

If anything, the solid tips on how to let go of distractions to get in the mood hit home in a roomful of over-scheduled New Yorkers. After the lecture, the shop stayed open so students could consult the sex educators one-on-one while browsing through everything from candles to Pocket Rockets.
