Apparently, when the country is in a recession, women buy more lipstick. Researchers have been tracking this data for years but this might be the first year that they also decided to track sex toy sales. According to a story in today’s New York Times, it turns out, they’re up! I’ll let you think of your own reason why you might scrimp on nice dinners or a new pair of boots but find the cash for a hot new vibrator (hint, it starts with an O).

It really all comes down to one simple thing, as Claire Cavanah put it so beautifully in the New York Times piece:

“When your world is lurching sideways,” Ms. Cavanah said, “it’s good to go home to a nice bed — and a little intimacy.”

Indeed it is.
