Make Love Not Porn
Ah pornography. Such a controversial topic. I recently learned that the wife of a friend of mine who makes porn could lose her job – just because of what her husband does. Come on, people.
One of the main criticisms of porn is that it give people completely incorrect ideas about what sex is or should be. I completely agree that porn is not realistic in many important ways. However, it does have its merits. Porn can give people permission to do things they might not otherwise have done, it can give them new ideas and some porn can actually facilitate learning.
Most mainstream porn, however, isn’t doing any of this. BoingBoing recently pointed me to this cute website to help people learn what is and is not real in porn. It’s called Make Love Not Porn and it includes common porn practices and explanations of why those don’t work in real life. It’s cute and accurate. My only question is, will the people who need it, see it? What other tips would you give?
