The Diva Cup

The Diva Cup

Check out the end of this post to find out how to win free stuff!

I used to absolutely hate getting my period. It was always a hassle – making sure I had everything with me that I needed, having to ask around for pads or tampons if I didn’t, obsessing about making sure I didn’t get Toxic Shock Syndrome, that pesky little string, etc.

Then one day in college, someone told me about the Diva Cup and Lunapads. I don’t remember where I was or who told me, but when I heard about them, I knew that they needed to become a part of my life. My roommate ordered a Diva Cup for each of us with a Luna Pad starter kit.

With the rigors of school, I’d almost forgotten completely about it until one day, she came running into my room screaming “it came! it came!”. We pulled out our Diva Cups and started reading the directions. It took me a couple of months of using the cup to get the hang of it (insert it at the earliest possible time of my period, get my hand a little bit wet, etc) but once I did, I discovered how absolutely freeing it was. No more carrying packages of tampons around with me so I could vigilantly exchange one piece of cotton for another. Now, I could wait until I got home and change my Diva Cup in peace and quiet.

For those of you who use tampons, remember how it felt when you switched from pads? How great it was not to have a bulky, blood-filled thing between your legs? A few months ago I was watching TV and a commercial for tampons came on and I found my vaginal muscles literally tensing up in revulsion with the memory of dry cotton (the Diva Cup doesn’t absorb all of your natural juices). Tampons for me have become what pads once were – the thing I will use only if I absolutely have to.

Lunapads

Lunapads

Although… now that I have my Lunapads, even pads aren’t that bad any more. Lunapads are made out of such a wonderful material that they don’t feel at all like regular pads and they’re adorable! My favorite ones have cupcakes on them. That’s right – cupcakes. Plus, I know I’m not adding tons of waste to the environment with my worn out pads and tampons. I am no longer part of the 14 billion pads and tampons that go into landfills every year and that just feels good.

These products have even helped me make friends! Once on a school trip, I found myself rooming with a complete stranger. On the first night, she noticed that I had a Diva Cup and mentioned that she had one too. That conversation started what is now a 5 year friendship and when we tell the story of how we met, inevitably other people ask about the Diva Cup so we get spread the good news.

To top it all off, the Diva Cup/Lunapads people are so terrific. They support amazing causes like the New Space for Women’s Health in New York and they are a part of Eco-Sexy Earth Day Activities (most recently at our Babeland Brooklyn Location!)

To celebrate our love for Lunapads/Diva Cup and their love of Babeland, they are pleased to offer Babeland blog readers a discount on their website. Just enter Babeland09 for 10% off orders of $35 or more until the end of the year.

But that’s not all! You can win a free Lunapads Intro Kit. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me how you make your sex life Eco-Sexy and friendly. I’ll pick a winner on June 10th!

I choose organic vegan products and products made of natural materials like glass, stone, metal and wood.

I choose organic lubricants and natural materials for toys!

I never thought that doing a little browsing on Babeland would be so informative! I’ve never even /heard/ of the Diva Cup, let alone read a review about this product that just seems too good to be true. I’m a dedicated consumer though, so I’m definitely going to check this out, if just for the enviromental benefits and nothing else. =)

I have been using the Diva cup for a few months now and I LOVE it! It took me a few tries to get the positioning right, but everything is great now. I’d love to try out the lunapads, as well.

When it comes to my sex life, I make most of my eco-friendly choices in my toy box. I try to choose toys that are either non-powered, outlet powered, or rechargeable. And in those cases where I simply must have something that takes batteries, I try to use rechargeable batteries. This way I can produce less waste from used batteries. I also steer clear of those cheap “dsiposable” cock rings I’ve been seeing a lot of lately and just go for the nice high-quality cleanable kind (like the ones Babeland sells!).

Now if I could just figure out a way to reduce condom waste. Someone recently told me that used condoms were recyclable. Anyone know if that’s true?

Elastomer toys for myself and the boyfriend plus eco-friendly lube!

And, of course, we always take the subway or walk to Babeland rather than driving. Not only does it cut down on emissions, but we get to tote our (resuable!) bags proudly and feel all giggly and sexy in public :)

Wow, these Lunapads and Diva cups sound like a dream come true!

I try to make my sex life Eco-sexy and friendly by using rechargeables in all my vibrators, picking natural materials like wood and glass when possible as well as recycling my broken toys when possible. On the few occasions that I use regular batteries, I recycle those too and never throw them in the trash!

I LOVE my Diva Cup. I’m using it right now actually!! Don’t enter me in the contest because I don’t need another one. I’ve never used Lunapads, but I’ve been making my own from old flannel and bought some from a woman who sews these really punk rock cute fabrics.

As far as being eco-sexy, that’s a hard one. I try to buy products from reputable companies and not questionable made in china stuff. I tend to mail order because the mail is delivered to my house every day so there’s no extra emissions or fuel usage. I also like this natural herbal lube made by a local woman from locally grown materials. I’m transitioning to vegan condoms and dams and hopefully that will have a positive environmental impact. I like using toys that are plug in or rechargable so that I don’t create more battery waste. Or I just use the old fashioned (wo)manpowered method!!

    Ecosexy?

I use a Divacup during my periods, owns a few, high quality, rechargeable vibrators and non-powered dildos and butt plugs natural materials that lasts. I only use organic lube. When it comes to more complicated play, my boyfriend and I uses high quality vegan rope for bondage and choose vegan, eco friendly implements for BDSM-play. I’m a environmental friendly sub ^_^

  11. Molly Says:

I use a Divacup, which not only makes sex during my period a lot less messy but also relieves me from the vaginal dryness and irritation of the tampons I used to use. Now I am actually horny during my periods and inclined to love every bit of my female anatomy instead of cursing it.

I also sent every toxic toy I ever had to be recycled, and I invested in a Lelo Gia (rechargeable and should keep working for years longer than the cheap disposable ones full of chemicals) and an Njoy Pure Wand (which I could pass down to my granddaughters one day if it doesn’t become property of the court when I use it to stop a burglar in the night. That’s one heavy blunt object, and I keep it right next to my bed, just in case I need to masturbate or thump a villain in the head.)

  12. the kitten pup Says:

i choose as organic products as i can. i also re-use plastic containers such as milk jugs for growing my vegetables and herbs. i will be investing in rechargeable batteries and i use natures resources such as trees for shade to help lower cooling costs in the summer.

i also am researching making my own soaps including household cleaning products. i use organic chap stick, deodorant and toothpaste. as soon as previously purchased soaps are used up those will be switching to organic as well.

i am loving the sound of the diva cup and also the luna pads! i can promise you i will be trying these! i can’t tell you how tired of tampons i am…

  13. Connie Says:

I have been using natural lubricants for a while now such as grape seed oil and I have to admit that I have not given much thought until now about my sex toy choices. However, I have been using the Divacup since high school and I don’t think I can go back to tampons ever because they dry me out, you can not wear them as long, and there is an ick factor when it comes to having a piece of cotton in you for as long as 8 hours. I have still been using disposable liners, so this intro kit would go to great use.
Thanks for offering this chance to win the kit. :-)

  14. Anna Says:

I make my sex life eco friendly by not having sex at all! It’s super easy when you’ve never had an orgasm and get dumped before your “relationship” ever has a chance to go anywhere! (I’m 100% serious.)
