Fourth Summer Love Winner!

Monday, August 17th, 2009

“I heard earlier today from somebody online that Babeland is giving away up to $500 worth of sex toys to one lucky winner, and also a couple of $125 prizes to the blog post that generates the most comments. I doubt I can generate that many comments, but the $500 prize is a random draw. I just have to blog about what it is I’d like to win…”

Congratulations to Wolfger for being this week’s sexiest list for men!

Wolfger will be receiving a $25 Babeland Gift Card for their Summer Love Contest list.  It was a difficult decision to make, but we chose Wolfger because we liked their interest in trying new products.

Next week, we’ll be choosing a winner for our $500 Babeland Gift Card.  Stay tuned to see who the lucky blogger will be!

Winning one of our weekly contests does not eliminate you from winning any other prizes in our Summer Love Contest.

Weeds’ Uncle Andy visits Babeland

Monday, August 17th, 2009
Justin Kirk, "Uncle Andy" from Weeds, at Babeland

Folks peeking into our Mercer Street store in Manhattan this weekend were undoubtedly curious about the film crew inside. Nylon Magazine and Atlantic Records shot a viral music video for the artist Anya Marina, and they called in some celebs for cameos, including Justin Kirk.

We at Babeland have plenty of celeb crushes, so it was my turn to be starstruck by the presence of the actor who plays beloved Uncle Andy on Showtime’s Weeds.  Perhaps one of the funniest characters currently on TV, Uncle Andy’s character offers up plenty of sex advice to his pot-dealing sister-in-law Nancy Botwin (played by Mary Louise Parker) and her two young sons. He gifted Nancy with a Hitachi Magic Wand in the first season, and gave one of the best and most hysterical pro-masturbation lessons ever to his nephew. And he has a lot of  sex. And he’s hot!

Justin was excited to be there,  he’d never been to Babeland before, so I’m thrilled that he could be our next big celebrity fan. He and the cast were each gifted with the new music-activated vibrator the Freestyle, and Justin was truly psyched to get it. He was funny and super nice, in one part of the video had to wear different disguises and was really playing it up, plus he was a good sport about having to come back the next day.

Anya’s music video “Whatever You Like”, a cover of a song recorded originally by hip hop artist T1, is set to debut online in about three weeks. You can see a live version of the cover here.

Oh, trivia! This is not the first music video shot in a Babeland store. R.E.M. filmed part of their video Supernatural Superserious at our Rivington Street store last year!

The SaSi speaks french

Tenga and Gigi

Tenga and Gigi

I just got back from a lovely vacation visiting Paris and Amsterdam for the first time. Always Aroused Girl took over while I was gone and did a fabulous job. While abroad, I was wandering around the Marais, the gay neighborhood in Paris, when what should catch my eye but this adorable, beach themed window display in a local sex toy shop! Being in a foreign country and seeing Gigi felt like a little bit of home was reaching out to give me a hug. Imagining it at the beach with the Tenga was just too much – could that little striped beach chair be any cuter? (Yes, I am the kind of person who goes gaga over sex toy window displays)

I immediately went into the store to see what else they had in stock – this was clearly my kind of place. I found Fun Factory toys, Njoy toys, Gigi, Liv and the rest of the Lelo family and, to my surprise and delight, the SaSi (on sale right now)! I have a special place in my heart for the SaSi since Babeland (with JeJoue) first brought the toy to the world. I hope the SaSi quickly becomes  a staple of every french woman’s house the way it has mine – along with baguettes, coffee and a nice cheese.

Have you seen the SaSi in your travels?
