Q: Why would I want to buy a glass toy?

A: When people first look at a glass toy, I can almost see the image they have in their head of the last time they broke a wine glass and watch them shudder as they imagine the glass dildo doing the same thing, but inside them.

Let me be the first to assure you that this is highly unlikely if not nearly impossible. The next time you are in a store with glass toys, pick one up and try to break it just by using your hands (not dropping it on the floor). You won’t be able to do it, so your vagina shouldn’t be able to either. Some glass toys are actually made out of pyrex, the same glass as those heavy duty mixing bowls we all love so much. In other words, they’re made to last.

Time Out New York just came out with their annual Sex Issue. This year it’s jam packed with influential New Yorkers and underground spots to get busy in the city. The magazine also polled “50 gigolos, sex bloggers, strippers, pornographers and other members of the perverati” asking them about their favorite sex toys (the Hitachi), their favorite parties (Submit, Lesbian Sex Mafia, and others) and of course, their favorite local sex toy store. Babeland won with a resounding 71%, probably because it is “how sex shops should be: clean and modern with a super helpful, really hot staff” (aww, shucks – we love you too).

This issue also features two favorite New Yorkers of mine, Ignacio Rivera and Khane, throwers of the Sweat party and stars of Trans Entities and Wild Kingdom. Congrats both of you!

The Boss from behind

In the world of sex toys, things are a little different now than they were a mere seven years ago, when I started at Babeland.  Sex toys were just starting to gain truly mainstream popularity then; now, commercials for the Trojan Vibrating Touch Fingertip Massager air on network television, celebrities flaunt their diamond-encrusted playthings, and high-end design stores show us that the days of tacky neon jelly vibration are (mostly) long gone.  Sex (toys) and fashion have become deeply intertwined, and we love it.
