Here’s what I’ve been reading this week

Why would the Danish Tourism board make a video saying that Danish women get drunk and have sex?

A new study shows that men who help clean get more sex. I’m not sure I even know where to begin with this study..

A really great packing how-to

There is a bicycle bondage calendar. Seriously. Jiz Lee is in it and it should be bought.

The Canadian prime minister called for the regulation of sex toys to keep out harmful chemicals.

A four “A” review of the new Belladonna film, Strapped Dykes

Sexy Parenting at Babeland

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Having a healthy sexuality is often taboo in our society, and it seems particularly not okay to be in tune with the sexuality of those you love most – your family members!  Hence “your mom” jokes – if you knew what was actually going on with her sex life, it wouldn’t hurt so much to hear others speculate about it!  And you’d have the greatest comeback ever…

So I would like to give a shoutout to all the sexy moms and daughters who come into Babeland every day to be educated together!  So many people – teens and early twenties especially – have rocky relationships with their parents, and it’s really great to see every day at work that family love is alive and well and shopping for sex toys!

Daughters – I know, I know, it can be embarrassing, and maybe your mom dragged you into the store, but embrace it!  So many people would LOVE to have their parents support their sexual exploration – you’re super lucky, so listen up to your mom and you just might learn something from an older and wiser voice of experience!

Moms – High five for breaking taboos and being involved in sex education!  Just remember that openness is a two-way street.  Sure, talking to your kids about your sex life may lose you some authority figure points, and it may be pretty awkward at first, but over time it will gain you their respect and trust.  If you want to know what they’re up to in bed, you’ll have to set the example and create a safe and accepting environment where you both can be a bit vulnerable with each other.

A great first step is to take your kid or your mom to Babeland!  We were recently mentioned in Smartmom’s New Year’s list of Brooklyn parenting trends in the last decade, which means all the cool kids are doing it.  Our fabulous Babes would love to help you learn about your sexuality together and find the perfect sex toys to get you both started!

You can also come to one of our awesome workshops to learn more about a particular topic that interests you both.  Then you can share what you’ve learned by being one of our Sexy Mom Bloggers this May!  Let the education and family bonding begin!

More of Moregasm

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

There’s a brand new book in town, it’s called Moregasm and it’s Babeland’s guide to sex! This book is cute, informative, funny, diverse, easy to understand, creative and so much more. It has everything you need to know and more. Plus, the photos are hot, hot, hot (and I’m not just saying that because some of them are my friends)!

You can get Moregasm right now in our stores and online. You can be sure you’ll be hearing a lot more about Moregasm on here because we’re just so excited about our new baby. For now, let this review from Cascadia Weekly whet your whistle. Also, watch out for our launch parties in a Babeland store near you!

Moregasm: Babeland’s Guide to Mind-Blowing Sex, by Claire Cavanah and Rachel Venning
Avery Books/Melcher Media, 2010
This ain’t your mamma’s Joy of Sex, people. While some chapters may hearken back to the groundbreaking 1970s tome—you know, what goes where and different ways to do “it”—this colorful tutorial devotes just as much page space to homoerotic action as it does to the ol’ straight and narrow. Penned by Claire Cavanah and Rachel Venning—who, for nearly 20 years, have run the Seattle sex boutique Babeland—the 266-page tome covers everything from DIY dildos to sadomasochism, dry humping, the art of kissing, blindfolding, cross-dressing, dental dams, hand jobs, Kegel exercises, nipple clamps, and, as the title of the book suggests, the best ways to have the best—and most—orgasms possible. Written with passion and playfulness, the book is much more than a “how-to.” Those who learn visually will have plenty to choose from in the form of delicious, naughty eye candy, which may, in fact, be all you need to lead you on the path to pleasure. Note: Moregasm doesn’t officially hit the shelves until Jan. 5, but Amazon will let you pre-order. No, you can’t borrow my copy until them.
