Babeland University: BlowJobs with Dr. Emily Nagoski

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

Here at Babeland, we take pride in our blow job workshops. They’re one of our most popular events and we love talking about passionate sex with people who are as energetic and excited about sex positivity as we are! So sometimes, we like to keep things lively and invite other amazing sex educators in, to spice things up. Last weekend, we invited college health educator Emily Nagoski to come in and teach a fellatio workshop for a crowded room of eager students.

Babes in the Wild: The I Heart Brooklyn Girls Calendar Party!

Thursday, October 21st, 2010
This Saturday is the The I Heart Brooklyn Girls Calendar Release Party. For those of you who aren’t acquainted with the calendar, photographer Erica Beckman has created an amazing pin-up calendar of women for the past 4 years, inspired by retro pin-ups and the calendar girls of the past – with a queer femme twist, that is. This year’s theme? 60s pulp covers. This is a particularly exciting year for us as Babes, because two of our own are involved: Sex educators Lara Maldjian and Leah Perrotti! Lara gaves us a rundown on her experience being in the calendar and how it affects femme visibility:

Dan Savage: Our October Babe of the Month!

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

This month, our choice for Babeland’s Babe of the Month was clear: no one other than Savage Love’s Dan Savage! It was by no means a difficult choice, considering the amazing things that Dan has done this month for LGBT Youth by launching the “It Gets Better” Project, a video campaign designed to let at risk LGBT kids know that there is a life beyond their experience of bullying and isolation in schools. In fact, we were so inspired by him that we made our own videos too, for our New York City and Seattle locations, and blogged about it! He’s spoken to numerous media outlets regarding the project and has garnered videos from amazing advocates and allies, including Kate Bornstein (our Babeland Pick for “It Gets Better”!), Tim Gunn and Hilary Clinton. He continues to fight the good fight by speaking boldly in his column, regarding the severity of LGBT youth suicides. Thank you, Dan, for being an amazing sex educator and advocate for LGBT rights. You’re a Babe!

If you’d like to show your own support today, wear purple! Today is GLAAD’s Spirit Day, so wearing purple in support of LGBT youth and letting others know about the project is a great way to get involved.
