What I’m giving this year: sex toys, of course!

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

I don’t know about you, but I’m a little neurotic about gift-giving.  I like to find the perfect gift for the perfect person, because there’s nothing that makes me happier than giving someone something that even THEY didn’t know they wanted.  And I’m not a fan of pushing through crowds of people to make my gifty purchases, so I like to get it done early.  With that in mind, I give you a short list of what I’m giving some of the important people in my life for the holidays.

Int’l Transgender Day of Remembrance

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Today is the Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day designed to bring attention to the hate crimes against trans persons. The event is held yearly in November to honor Rita Hester, whose unsolved murder on November 28th, 1998 began the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. It is estimated that one out of every 1,000 homicides in the United States is an anti-transgender hate crime.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance is also an opportunity for allies of trans people to stand in solidarity with transfolk at events around the globe. It’s an excellent opportunity to let your friends and family know you are a trans ally, look into legislation that you can support to help create greater social equality, or learn about what’s happening around the world today by watching some of the wonderful media that has been created especially for this international event.
